HYDERABAD: Indosol Solar Private Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle Set up by transformer manufacturer Shirdi Sai Electricals Limited (SSEL), is all set to commence production of its fully automated, integrated solar module manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh.

Indosol Solar, which has bagged approval from the Centre for its 10,000 MW, Rs25,000 crore solar module manufacturing project under two tranches of the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for high-efficiency solar PV modules, is starting off with one production line with a capacity to manufacture 500 MW of solar PV modules from March 31, 2024.

The Phase 1a facility with a 500MW capacity has come up over a 30-acre parcel of land at Ramayapatnam of Nellore district that was allocated in January 2024, the company said. SSEL Group CEO Sharat Chandra Kolla said the fully automated module line is first of its kind in India as it is capable of making PERC (passivated emitter rear cell), TOPCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact), HJT (heterojunction technology) modules with glass-glass and back-sheet combinations.

He said phase-1 of the project, comprising around 5GW, will come up at an investment of Rs 15,000 crore by the end of 2025, while the second phase of 5GW will come up by 2026 end at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore. The project is expected to create about 23,000 direct and indirect jobs in AP.

Kolla said a total of 20 lines of 500MW each will be set up as part of the 10GW project, which will require a total of 8,000 acres, including 5,000 acres for manufacturing facilities for the modules, cells, wafers, polysilicon and ingots, and another 3,000 acres for ancilliaries, desalination plants, reservoirs and township. The facility will also manufacture around 1,200 tonnes per day of glass panels and 30,000 tonnes per annum of polysilicon. While the first phase is being targeted for completion by 2025 end, the second phase is expected to become operational by 2026 end, he said.
